photo Drop
photo Drop (
Download ) is a Mac OS X utility that allows you to create small, customized droplets that turn the tedious task of modifying a folder of images into a simple drag-and-drop operation. Using photo Drop, you can create a droplet in a seconds that can resize an image to new dimensions, convert the original image to a new format, or even flip the image horizontally.
Features of photo Drop
photo Drop was built from the ground up to be as simple and easy to use as possible and to provide a clean and efficient way for users to interact with the Unix tool sips.
Flip Image Horizontally/Vertically
Feeling creative? Perhaps looking for that mirror image look? Whatever your reason, photo Drop makes it a snap to flip your image either horizontally or vertically.
Pad Image to Dimensions
Need to make your image bigger? Use this option to enlarge the images canvas, keeping the original photo centered.
Resample Image to Max Dimension
Perhaps the most useful feature of photo Drop is its ability to resample images to a maximum dimension. Want to make sure none of your images are larger than 300 pixels wide or high? Set this option and your built droplet will intelligently resample the image to make sure that no side is larger than 300 pixels!
Resample Image Dimensions
Use this option to make sure all your images are of the same proportion. photo Drop's built droplet will intelligently enlarge or reduce the size of the image to fit your needs.
Crop Image to Dimensions
Center-crop images to your exact dimensions.
Rotate Image
It has happened before. You've taken images with your digital camera only to discover that the orientation of the image is 90 degrees off. By setting this attribute in photo Drop, your droplet will automatically and painlessly correct the problem for you.
Convert your Images
With photo Drop, you can convert your original image to any number of formats, all by simply building a droplet and dragging your images over it. Supported formats include bmp, gif, jpeg, jpeg2000, pict, png, photoshop, qtif, and tiff. While you're at it, you can also downsample the image to a lower quality if space is at a premium!
Artist, Copyright, and Description Attributes
Painlessly add meta-data to your images by simply filling in the blanks.
What are Droplets?
Droplets are small (less than a 150 K a piece) applications that function when files or folders are dropped on them. You can re-use droplets as many times as you want or simply create a new one whenever you need it. With photo Drop, droplets can be made to only work on certain files if desired. Mac OS X 10.3 or higher is needed to run the created droplets.
What's new in Version 1.01?
- Added a warning dialog about the destructive nature of droplets.
- Added ability to use 'Best' compression when modifying the quality of images.
- Added built in version checking to check for the latest versions.
- No longer scales photos upwards when the value for 'Resample to Max Dimension' is larger than either the images width or height [2].
- Images retain the original created date [4].
- Italian localization kindly provided by Lorenzo Maria dell'Uva.

User Feedback
Aram Kudurshian has just made my life easy. While there are lots of photo batch processing programs out there, few of them are as easy to use as Photo Drop 1.0. This free program allows you to easily modify the properties of an image or a folder of images. For instance, say you wanted to flip horizonally all the graphics in a particular folder, or you wanted to change their sizes so they all adhere to a specific size. Photo Drop allows you to create a droplet with those criteria selected. Any graphics files you drag and drop onto the droplet will be converted. In my opinion, this is a lot easier to use than Photoshop, Graphic Converter, or DeBabelizer. And best of all, it's donationware. I've even just used it to resize the graphic you see in this post. Great software! - Damien Barrett (TUAW)
