With less than two weeks remaining in the semester, things are starting to get quite busy on-campus, both academically and socially. This post will detail some of the events that will occur during the next few days and will hopefully make up for expected lack of posts.
Tomorrow, former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw will be visiting campus as part of Hamilton’s Great Names Series. He follows such speakers as ex-president Bill Clinton, comedian Bill Cosby, and former mayor Rudolph Guilliani. As a senior HCEMS member, I’ll be covering the event and will hopefully have a chance to meet him. More on Tom Brokaw’s visit can be found on Hamilton’s news site.
Friday, the final copy of my thesis on scrolling PDFs with an eye tracker is due. I’m just now putting the final touches on the document and will hopefully distribute it to the faculty tomorrow. Along with a public presentation, the thesis is used to determine whether or not I will be able to gain honors with my Computer Science degree. Moreover, Friday also holds the last CS Smash of the semester, followed by a BBQ afterwards with the housemates and friends.
Saturday is the May Day music festival. This all day event will features such wonderful artists as local Hamilton band, Zeaskeez, as well as DJ Dave Nada, Ris Paul Ric, Elf Power, Chromeo, and The New Pornographers! I’m extremely excited to see The new Pornographers live and it looks like the weather’s going to cooperate! Look forward to some photos of the event…
Sunday and Monday will be days of work. An empirical project is due in Human Resource management, the construction of our final robot for Robotics, and preliminary slides for my thesis presentation. Also of note, the last airing of the On-Air Stylings of the Fickle Finn will be heard on WHCL 88.7 FM at 1 pm.
Next Tuesday, the food service on campus, Bon Apetit, are inviting a few students to help cook culturally diverse foods. I found out about this (and subsequently was invited) after Reuben Haag, the executive chef at Hamilton, gave me a wonderful cookbook today (The America’s Test Kitchen Cookbook) for helping gather student interest in Bon Apetit’s Seafood Watch a few weeks ago.
Next Wednesday is the HCEMS senior dinner. A good meal, a trip to the pub, and excellent company.
…and finally, next Friday is Class and Charter day. Last day of classes and the annual celebration of the end of the academic year. I’ll be presenting my thesis presentation, after which I hope to relax.
I’m also working on organizing an outing with the CS seniors and faculty to either Syracuse or Cooperstown and come Sunday, I’ll be heading out to Cupertino, CA once again for a marathon interview session with Apple. Wish me luck!
Good luck for your thesis presentation and for your interview session with Apple! Give us some news after that!
See you! :)
