The initial release of photo Drop has been extraordinary, at least for a small, freeware utility. Publications such as The Unoffical Apple Weblog, MacNN, MacInTouch, MacNytt (Swedish), and even del.icio.us have picked up on the release. Visits to my web site have more than doubled and my bandwidth for the past four days has equalled the amount for the rest of the month, even though photo Drop is a 1/6 the size of HTML Creator. Not to blow my own horn, but I’m feeling pretty good and again, I just want to take the time to thank those who donated money. I think so far the best thing about the release has been the impromptu reviews and comments that have been sent to me. Some great suggestions, feature requests, and bug reports have been filed and I plan to deal with them in the near future.
A couple of things I’m working on for photo Drop 1.01. First of all, there’s been a bit of concern that the editing is destructive or at least that it modifies the original files. Although I warn users in the documentation, I agree that I need to be a bit more pro-active. In this regard, the next version will feature a warning when the droplet is run. This warning can be skipped much like you can skip other warnings in the Finder by holding down the option key. I figure this will prevent accidental data loss and shouldn’t add much time to the overall workflow.

I’ve also addressed bug B002 where images smaller than the value for ‘Resample to Max Dimension’ are scaled upwards. Although this is how Apple implemented SIPS, I believe that for the most part, users want to have a ceiling and not a floor for image dimensions. If this becomes a problem, I can always implement an option to choose between the two.
Other features I’m looking to implement for the next release include the beginning of localization support (I’ve had an offer from someone to localize photo Drop in Italian), an ability for photo Drop to check for updates, and a way to save the original created/modified dates.
