7:30 AM
Monday. The official ‘Day 1′ of the WWDC Conference. Mathieu and I are excited. In a couple of hours, Steve Jobs will take center stage in the Presidio conference room, in front of 3800 developers eagerly awaiting a comment on the rumors that have been flying around in the past few days. Will Apple move over to Intel? Or is this just a hoax? What new machines will be released? Is the iPod 2 GB rumor true?
9:15 AM
We’ve been sitting/standing in line for the past hour and a half. The wait is getting long. The New York Times and SF Gate provided by the Hyatt have been read and discarded and with the WiFi down, there’s very little to do. I’ve talked with a couple of attendees from Syracuse University and listened to a REAL Software developer discuss the benefits of REALbasic with others, but I’m bored. Developers are just like everyone else, cutting in front of one another and in general, the organization so far has been fairly poor. At least there’s plenty of coffee available and to make things better, it’s even called Aram’s Blend.
9:40 AM
The line is moving although everyone is now appearing to rush towards the escalators. Nice, real nice.
10:01 AM
Steve Jobs is late! Last year, the keynote began exactly at 10:00 but it appears not everyone has sat down/entered the room. The level of excitement is very visible and many are snapping shots here and there. The room is actually a sea of flashes right now.
11:10 AM
Keynote over. Mac OS X on Intel. Speechless. Disappointment reins in my mind. No cool new product, no new software except for a demo of iTunes with Podcast support. The only real interesting thing is that Mac OS X has been compatible on Intel since day 1. Wow. There’s a genuine level of anger towards Apple at the moment. Two transitions have been completed successfully, the move from 68k to PowerPC and the move from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X. It feels as if developers are tired of the continual move from one platform to another.
12:45 PM
Sitting in a Starbucks now. Mathieu and I had to get away from the conference. They provided lunch but there wasn’t much a buzz in the room. Last year, there was genuine excitement after having seen Tiger and being provided demo versions. Now, people are just sitting and eating the average food. A bad taste has been left in my mouth but I have a feeling that’s from the terrible canoli served at lunch.
4:45 PM
The Mac OS X State of the Union has finished but I can’t really post about what’s been said. The good news though is a lot has been clarified about the move to Intel and it’s as easy as has been mentioned in the keynote - if that is, you’ve used Xcode and Cocoa. I’ve installed Xcode 2.1 and the checkbox in all the slides are true. You simply check the platform you want. GCC 4.0 is being used. I’m actually currently typing this as the Development State of the Union is happening but I’m not too interested right now. I’m sort of tired and while I was able to find a pear and a pack of ruffles during the snack break, the rush to the soda’s and cookies by everyone else has left me almost bruised and discontent.
7:45 PM
The day’s over. After the Development State of the Union, I attended the Graphics and Media State of the Union which was a lot more interesting. A lot of cool demos and some really interesting speakers. After the session, they had some finger foods and drinks for a reception of sorts. It was decent and I got a free dinner out of it. We’re once again sitting at a Starbucks as this is the only place you can get a good, reliable internet connection. Not sure what’s planned for the evening. Perhaps nothing as I’m pretty tired. A bit of TV or maybe some reading. If my knee stops bothering me, I might go to the fitness center.
Tomorrow looks to be a good day - mostly. Some interesting sessions in the morning and then in the afternoon, I’m going to head to Alcatraz to see the island and take photos. Perhaps in the evening, a dinner with friends. I’ll post more tomorrow and hopefully, I’ll have some interesting photos.
Update: You can see the crowd and yours truly right behind the head of the guy with his eyes closed in this photo posted at Binary Bee.
How is the general public suppose to enjoy these comment sections in they’re not in English?

BTW: Sweet queue, lots of happy people.
P.S I will be in the library for the rest of the summer, if for no other reason than the A/C.

They are trackbacks from a site that linked to the post. But the simple answer John is to learn French… :)

Il faut dire que j’aime bien le blogue de ton nouvel ami à WWDC, Aram. :-P
Just winding up your friends… So, I’m guessing you’ve been practicing your French with Mathieu?
