A really quick post with ultimately no purpose: I’m going to go see Porcupine Tree live in Syracuse on May 17th! Tickets only cost $19 including the “convenience charge” (convenient to who, I might ask) and hopefully, they’ll be playing many, many songs from their new album that was released on Tuesday. Speaking of which, I should really be firing up the iTMS and purchasing it…
With one day to go before Tiger is released, the WWDC student scholarship winners (myself included!) received official word from Apple that we were winners. What this means is that we get a free pass (e-Ticket) to attend the developers conference between June 6th and June 10th, held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Granted, this hardly costs Apple any money but is a wonderful, good-will gesture to budding developers and students that is greatly appreciated! Some highlights from last year were the keynote (of course!), Apple Remote Desktop 2 given to us for free, the trip to Apple’s campus in Cupertino (and the live concert of Jimmy Eat World), and not to forget, the special Sunday event just for students…
This will be my second year in attendance after having attended last year’s conference. The overall topics will be Tiger-centric and instead of learning about the new technologies and how we *might* be able to work with them, given that the operating system was still in development last year, we’ll have concrete instructions. I’m greatly looking forward to attending the conference and being that I now know what it’s all about, will be able to appreciate it more by being selective in which tracks I pursue. In addition, I’m dying to take some photos of San Francisco and the Golden Gate bridge with my Rebel XT!
Travel plans are currently in limbo; I’ve used my Delta frequent flier miles to fly out to San Francisco on June 4th, catching the red-eye back to Syracuse on a late June 10th flight. This is actually *perfect* as I don’t have to pay for an extra, unneeded night at whatever hotel I’ll be staying at. I’ve contacted the Student-Dev mailing list in search for a roommate whose willing to stay only six nights (as opposed to the normal week) and am currently in communication with a pleasant French student from Paris. My ultimate goal is to keep lodging costs under $300 for the stay, while not sacrificing quality too much!
Five days after the Apple WWDC ‘05 student scholarship winners were to be announced, I found the following asset today in my Apple Developer Connection account. It looks like I might be going to San Francisco this summer for a week after all!

WWDC 2005 Student E-Ticket Asset
Today’s been mostly a blur. I really don’t know how the day progressed as rapidly as it did. Work was accomplished, classes attended, meetings adjourned, meals eaten. At the same time, the stress level simply rises and with only two more weeks of classes (less now), the work is definitely piling up.
Of interest, there was a WHCL meeting this evening where the general manager and production manager spoke of upcoming changes and events. This upcoming Saturday, WHCL, IMF, CAB, and the ISC are putting on the annual May Day event on Minor field (that’s right outside my window). This is the second year it has been organized and while this year the artists being brought in are less known, it should be a blast - providing it doesn’t rain on Saturday. Yes, if you’re paying attention closely or are good with dates, you’ll know that Saturday is actually April 30th. That’s the logic that prevails at Hamilton!
In addition, it looks like WHCL will be broadcasting this summer, albeit with a very limited schedule. I’m not sure exactly what the schedule will be (probably 2-4 hours a day) but I’m going to try with all my might (read: ask) for my own show over the summer. John and Greg might even become co-hosts! Also of interest, WHCL has some really snazzy t-shirts that will be going on sale. In all honesty, they look very cool (and come in 5 colors too)! Being a DJ, we can get them below cost so I’ll hopefully be picking up a couple and maybe we’ll even have a few to give away on our show!
It also looks like WHCL is going to be getting a digital music library that will allow us to broadcast 24/7 unmanned. This means that potentially, there will no longer be dead air before our show (that is if I can keep the same time next year). Of course, this won’t occur until next year once the new system is in place but I’m pretty excited about it. In fact, the station is looking for some new e-board members and I might apply for one of the less intensive positions such as member-at-large.
So those are mainly the new WHCL things in work. Don’t forget- tomorrow Sean and I are on-air at 10.30 am for an hour and half of mayhem and music. If you missed last weeks post on the station, be sure to check it our here for some awesome pictures!
“CLINTON, NY - To the sound of chirping alarm clocks everywhere, the rising-seniors of Hamilton College awoke groggily this Sunday morning to await their turn in the most sought after competition of the year. Officially known as the ‘housing lottery,’ most students interviewed referred to the event and those in charge, Res Life, in less endearing terms, describing the lottery more as an up-hill struggle for survival…”

Yes, this morning was the annual housing lottery and thankfully, is the last one I’ll be participating in at Hamilton. Bringing finally closure to the topic of housing for next year, the housing lottery’s sole purpose is to allocate housing for upperclassmen and rising-sophomores. Each student, two weeks ago, was given a number ranging from 1 to the number of student in their class year (I personally had 253). The lower the number (1 being the best), the better off you were. Today, at the lottery, those who hadn’t yet taken part in any specialized housing lottery (such as substance-free or blocking), were able to go in order of their number and pick where they would like to live for the 2005-2006 academic year. Those abroad or unable to go were able to designate a proxy who would pick housing for them. In my case, I was Greg’s proxy and had the task of selecting housing for his number, 44.
